Alphabet Clapping

Say and clap the alphabet A-B-C, A-B-C. As you repeat the pattern a third time, let your child say what comes next. Keep going!

Extending this activity

  • -Encourage the child to say the alphabet without singing the song. Alternate saying letters with the child until you have recited the entire alphabet together.

    -Read the book "Sleepy ABC" by Margaret Wise Brown and have the child guess which letter will come after each page.

Adjust for an older child

Take turns saying a letter with a clap. The adult will say a letter with a clap and then the child will say the next letter.

Adjust for a younger child

Practice singing the alphabet song to the younger child. The goal will be that the child chimes in.
