Extending this activity

  • -Children love to help around the house. Find other items they can sort by size to help you organize, such as pots and pans – smallest, biggest, and in between.

-Read the book “Size” by Henry Pluckrose, and explore the idea of big and small in different contexts.

Adjust for an older child

While this activity has the child sort in three categories: tallest, shortest, and in between, the older child will be able to organize all the books from the very tallest to the very shortest.

Adjust for a younger child

Start out with three books of various lengths. Talk with your child about which book is tallest, shortest, and which books fall in between.
