Detailed Drawing of a Face

Ask your child to draw his face on a paper. Talk about what details he will want to include such as number of eyes, ears, nose, etc.

Extending this activity

  • -Use sidewalk chalk or paints to provide a different medium for drawing. Demonstrate drawing something you see, adding details, and explaining what you are doing.

    -Read "Harold and the Purple Crayon" by Crockett Johnson and talk about all the things Harold drew.

Adjust for an older child

Provide blank paper and a variety of writing instruments and encourage the older child to draw and scribble write. Encourage the child to add details to the drawing and to describe what he or she is creating.

Adjust for a younger child

Draw a circle, and ask the child to add a nose and eyes to your drawing of a face. Have the child name each body part as you draw it.
