Extending this activity

  • -Ask the child to find numbers on food packages. Show the child the nutritional label. You can discuss what nutritional facts are and play a fun number recognition game at the same time!

-Read "One Duck Stuck" by Phyllis Root and have the child 'read' each number.

Adjust for an older child

Challenge the child to create two digit numbers. For example, “My age is 27. Can you use the magnets to create the number 27? It has a two and a seven in it. Which number comes first in 27? Which number comes second?” Continue playing with other two digit numbers.

Adjust for a younger child

Use the numbers one through five for the younger child.
