Extending this activity

  • -After your grocery store experience, come home and make fruit salad!

-Read the book "Each Orange had 8 Slices" by Paul Giganti, Jr. Through colorful illustrations, this book offers great counting opportunities by asking questions such as "If each orange had 8 slices and each slice had 2 seeds, how many seeds are there in all?"

Adjust for an older child

Extend the questioning: how many more bananas do we have than apples? How many apples and oranges do we have all together? Which fruit do we have the most and least of?

Adjust for a younger child

Have the child count out one banana, two apples, and three oranges.
