Extending this activity

  • -Play a variation of 'Go Fish' where the child is trying to collect pairs that add to five. Create your own number cards 0-5, making four cards for each number.

-Write down all the possible combinations to make five with two hands (0+5=5, 1+4=5, etc).

Adjust for an older child

As the child becomes comfortable with the game, increase the numbers for the sum. For example, find all the combinations to make six with both hands.

Adjust for a younger child

Show the child different ways to make five, and count the five fingers after each combination.
