I Spy a Coin

While waiting, take three different coins from your purse or wallet. Play a guessing game using the features of the coins as clues.

Extending this activity

  • -Ask the child to create his or her own 'I Spy' riddles using the coins. Allow the child to provide clues with descriptive attributes.

    -Read "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" by Dr. Seuss. Talk through sorting the fish by their attributes.

Adjust for an older child

Discuss the value of each coin as you describe the physical attributes. Include that as part of the game.

Adjust for a younger child

Sort by one attribute. For example, you could use paper money and coins (sort by texture), or you could use pennies and dimes (sort by color).
