Jump To It

Using the tiles on a floor, ask your child to jump forward 3 tiles and 2 to the left. Proceed until they are back to the starting position.

Extending this activity

  • -Allow the child to come up with his or her own directions for someone else to follow.

    -Read the book "Katy and the Big Snow" by Virginia Lee Burton. Have the child give directions and follow the map Katy uses to plow the roads during a big snowfall.

Adjust for an older child

Give more complicated directions, such as “Jump forward three tiles, to the left two, and back one.” Then ask the child to come up with his or her own directions to get back to the starting position. Encourage the child to find more than one way.

Adjust for a younger child

Hold the child’s hand and jump together.
