Sort and Graph Leaves

Make the most of your park visit! Collect different types of leaves, then sort and graph them. Sort by color, size, or type of leaf.

Extending this activity

  • -Find more leaves and continue the graph. Glue the leaves on a poster board and post the graph in the child’s room. Have the child help you add labels such as numbers to the graph.

    -Read "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt" by Steve Metzger. Create a bar graph representing the leaves found in the book using colored markers and paper.

Adjust for an older child

After sorting and graphing the leaves, identify which types of trees the leaves came from. Most libraries have books to help identify leaves.

Adjust for a younger child

Use two types of leaves for the graph instead of three types.
