Extending this activity

  • -Continue sorting and manipulating the letters, separating them by consonants and vowels or upper case and lower case.

-Read the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault for more opportunities to name letters with your child.

Adjust for an older child

Encourage the child to choose a letter and imitate its sound. Provide the sound and a key word for any letters the child doesn't know.

Adjust for a younger child

The younger child can simply sort the letters by color. Go through each pile together, naming the letters one at a time.
