Magazine Picture Walk

Waiting time is the perfect opportunity to do a picture walk through a magazine and talk with your child about the pictures you see.

Extending this activity

  • -Cut photos out of older magazines and label them. You can glue the images in a small book, notebook, or just on a piece of paper, and then later go through and 'read' them with your child.

    -Find letters and numbers in the magazine, and keep a tally of how many instances of a single letter, number, or picture you can find.

Adjust for an older child

The child may 'spy' and point out the word "horse" each time it is read.

Adjust for a younger child

Enjoy reading the text together. The adult may point at objects in the pictures and reinforce that the child knows the words for the objects.
