Extending this activity

  • -Play "I Spy Letters" throughout the day, and practice identifying the same letters on signs and in books that you have been working on with "Magnetic Letter Mix Up".

-Read the book "Find Your ABC's" by Richard Scarry. Locate all the letters in the alphabet with an older child or spend time on just one page with a younger child.

Adjust for an older child

When your child has mastered identifying uppercase letters, play the same game with lowercase letters.

Adjust for a younger child

Reduce the amount of letters on the cookie sheet. Do not move on to a new letter until the child is confident in his ability to find the first letter.

  1. My grandson and I spread the plastic letters all over the floor, and then I called out different letters in his name to have him spell his name out. Once he did that, I just call a different letters and had him pick them out. He enjoyed that game.

  2. Thanks so much for sharing the way that you adapted and extended this activity in such a fun for your grandson! We love hearing your ideas!
