Extending this activity

  • -Make a "More Than Ten" book. Using two ten frames, represent the numbers 12-19 with one number on each page.

-Read the book "What's New at the Zoo?" by Suzanne Slade. Have the child use his or her ten frame to represent the addition problems in the story. Ask, "Do you think our answer will be more than ten or less than ten?"

Adjust for an older child

Use the numbers 12-19, and have the child predict how many more than ten each number is. Then, use the ten frame to check his or her prediction.
