Point the ABC song

Write the alphabet on a sheet of paper. As you sing the ABC song, invite your child to point at each letter as he sings.

Extending this activity

  • -Point out individual letters in signs and printed materials. If the child is unsure which letter it is, sing the alphabet song and pause before the correct letter.

    -Read "Curious George's ABCs" by H.A.Ray and point out the colored letters on each page.

Adjust for an older child

Have the child recite the letters while pointing and not singing. Allow the child to name letters as you point to them randomly.

Adjust for a younger child

Simply practice singing the ABC song slowly together.
