Extending this activity

  • -Play some music, and listen for sound patterns in the beat of the music.

-Read "A Very Special House" by Ruth Krauss. This book offers some very creative patterns with sounds and rhymes, and it should be fun to read aloud together.

Adjust for an older child

Create a pattern, but leave off the last part and have the child extend it. For example: "click, clap, beep, click, clap,…" (child would say "beep").

Adjust for a younger child

Keep the pattern to a simple 'AB' pattern. For example, "beep, bop, beep, bop."
