Extending this activity

  • -Read "My Abuelita" by Tony Johnston about a grandma that uses various props for her work as a storyteller. Invite your child to be on the lookout for more props to add to your storytelling basket.

-If you tell a story that really appeals to both you and your child, be sure to write it down to revisit at a later time.

Adjust for an older child

Challenge the older child by selecting up to three or four toys that must be included in his story.

Adjust for a younger child

After you model telling the story, invite the younger child to retell your same story instead of making up his own.
