Extending this activity

  • -Play the game a few times with your child. Then have the child hide the object for you, and ask questions such as “Is it between the first and third cup?”

-Read “Ten Little Rubber Ducks” by Eric Carle. Point out the highlighted ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.) used in the story.

Adjust for an older child

Rather than writing the ordinal numbers on the cups, leave the cups blank. As the child becomes more comfortable with the game, add more cups for a challenge.

Adjust for a younger child

Use only three cups labeled first, second, and third.
