-During mealtime, provide the opportunity to purposefully play with food! Write your child's name in food like applesauce or pudding.

Adjust for an older child

Have the child write other letters in the foam. You may also say a common word such as 'dog' and have the child write the first letter in the shaving cream.

Adjust for a younger child

The three year old child may simply practice the first letter of his or her name. Also, try tracing the child's name on the card where you have written it.

  1. We made Christmas cookies and decorated them. Then I allowed him to use the frosting to write his name, and some of the other words we have been practicing on. He really enjoyed it.

  2. We always love your comments and look forward to hearing how you adapt the activities in creative ways! Combining writing and icing COOKIES? Yes, please!

  3. I love doing this with my class. It is also fun to use shaving cream for numbers.
